At North Alabama Smiles, the first step is to examine the patient’s oral health and take X-rays, photographs, and impressions of their teeth. The primary purpose of aligners is to guide the teeth into the desired position to improve their alignment and your bite.Â
The second step is manufacturing the clear aligners based on the patient’s digital scans and impressions in a dental laboratory.Â
As soon as the aligners are ready, our dentists will provide them to you complete with instructions on how to wear and use them. It is commonly advised that the aligners be worn for at least 22 hours each day. While you are wearing the aligners, they will gently apply pressure on the teeth, shifting them into position.Â
Every 2 weeks during your treatment, you will change the aligners with a new set until the teeth reach their ideal positions in the mouth. The number of clear aligners required will depend on the specific needs of a patient.Â
